Objectives¶
BioRails is an open source project, driven and funded through commercial support services provided by The Edge Software Consultancy. We are committed to providing the open version of BioRails as free to use software to foster innovation. We remain true to these goals, focusing on building a unique solution and improving BioRails in collaboration with our customers and partners.
The objectives of the BioRails team and its community are:- Deliver a data management platform in support of all biological scientists in discovery research
- Facilitate others to leverage the platform, providing innovation in other areas such as data analysis
- Offer a new business model for delivery of software to the drug discovery industry

Roadmap¶
The Roadmap for BioRails is published on this site. The project direction is influenced by its contributors, addressing the needs of commercial customers and active community members. Our current focus is to extend and improve the content management features of the product, increasing the flexibility of the folder system and improving the granularity of user access control. Other longer term goals include the delivery of a turn-key chemistry registration and inventory solution, ChemRails based on the BioRails platform. However our focus remains on providing the best solution in support of low throughput, non-routine testing, and study based investigations as we believe this is area of greatest need.
